Multilinearity - Adrian Miles, again

Miles' "Hypertext Syntagmas" dispenses with the main navigation after the introductory page. Inside the hypertext, navigation shifts from the structure of the essay to the types of links available to the user. The five colored boxes in the upper right region of the hypertext (as seen in the following screen capture) mark the sorts of places a user can go from a particular page. Miles divides his links into "canonical," "commentary," "quotation," "reference," and "external." This is an intriguing shift in perspective that leaves the user very much in control of the experience of the hypertext.

But while the individual points in "Hypertext Syntagmas" may be plausible and reasonably well developed, the user can easily become lost in a journey through Miles' insights.
