Julie Collins Bates is an assistant professor of rhetoric, composition, and professional writing at Millikin University, where she directs the first-year writing program. Her dissertation, which analyzed the rhetorical tactics of community activists facing environmental injustice, was awarded the 2019 CCCC Outstanding Dissertation Award in Technical Communication. Her work also has appeared in Computers & Composition Online and Reflections, and she is the book review editor for Rhetoric Review.
