S. L. Nelson is a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK. Their background in rhetoric and composition, the digital humanities, and gender and sexuality studies informs their work. Their current research project interrogates the correlation between bodily autonomy and data ownership to consider the ways in which transgender individuals can use biohacking technology to assume control over their bodies and the data that they are compelled to produce. Their other projects involve analyzing the visual cultures of CRISPR in the UK press, examining the implications of direct-to-consumer genetic testing research for LGBTQ+ identities and publics, and developing queer video games.
